Powell High School Foundation

Announcing at first football game, 2009-2010

In a few quick months, the Powell Dreams Foundation has been born and has already completed its first project and in the final steps of completing its second project!

The Foundation was conceived when parent and community voices, the Founders, shared their concerns in meetings, conversations, and comments about the needs of Powell High School. Some concerns centered on funds needed above and beyond those provided by the state, local, and federal allotments that go to all Knox County public schools. Other issues included the requirements of parent associations to share hefty amounts of collected monies with national organizations that could not be used for the local schools.

There also were needs for volunteer assistance noted especially for administrative support for staff. Another concern voiced was mentoring for both teachers and students as they all attempt to meet their potential and use their special talents. An exploding student enrollment created additional needs.

And always there were the comments of staff, parents, and community about the “I wish…” dreams for the school. The “I wishes” included more space, special tutors, more up-to-date computers, special lab needs, technology in general, mentoring, expanded curricula, and administrative and professional support for staff.

The dreams that were voiced have led us to the point of establishing the Powell High School Panther Dreams Foundation and funding of a variety of projects! A Board of Directors and officers have been duly installed.

Values, Vision, and Mission

Board members and many of the Founders and supporters worked together to develop our values that drive our activities, our vision for what we wish to accomplish, and our mission for our PHS present day Panthers, students and staff.

Our Values
  • We believe that the Board of Directors, Advisory Board, and all parties involved with the work of the Foundation will conduct themselves with integrity acting as good stewards of the Foundation resources.
  • We believe in championing the potential of every student and teacher to use their talents and make life contributions.
  • We believe in promoting a passion for academic excellence while striving to eliminate complacency.
  • We believe the Foundation will be respectful of all points of view and endeavors in carrying out the Foundation’s mission in an equitable manner.
Our Vision

The key to changing the world starts with education. The ideal learning environment is one in which the whole community is invested, where students and staff strive for excellence in all areas, and where the love of learning becomes a life-long pursuit.

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop a life-long love of learning in staff and students by providing resources and opportunities unavailable through public school funding.
